NOTE: A copy of the following inspirational poem hangs on the wall in Arnold Palmer’s office. Arnie has made it a practice to read the poem at the start of each day. It serves him as a source of inspiration, courage and motivation that enables him to attack whatever problems and challenges that day might bring. It works for Arnie. It will work for you. Try it!

P.S. It also hung on my walls during my years of training. Always one of my favorites. -Chaya
THE MAN WHO THINKS HE CAN: If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don’t. If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t it is almost certain you won’t. If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost. For out in the world you’ll find ‘success’ begins with a fellow’s will. It ‘s all in the state of mind. If you think you are outclassed, you are. You’ve got to think high to rise. You’ve got to be sure of yourself before you can ever win a prize. Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man, but soon or late the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.
The following quotes all come from Chapter 7 of Busting Your Rut, a book we recommended for Gold week. The author, Danny Drubin, has both Gold and Magenta in his Primary ColorPrint.
“Perhaps it is because there is so much mediocrity that excellence stands out.”
“Excellence is not perfection…While perfection may be the best way something can be done, excellence may be the best way you are able to do it. Should you strive for perfection? Of course, and whenever possible, but in order to keep you sane, go for your personal best. When you achieve excellence, you will know it. You will feel it and the people around you will point it out.”
“Changing to excellence is about improving the quality of your daily performance. If you are capable of doing more, or doing better, do it…why settle?”
“Excellence begins when you say so, it occurs the moment you are no longer willing to accept the ordinary. Excellence is about your will, your attitude and your discipline. So, stop settling and go for excellence.”

And you can
The unexpected will happen today, and you can adapt.
Complications will arise, and you can work through them.
Opportunities will appear, and you can make the most of
them. Challenges will threaten to hold you back, and you can
find your way beyond them.
Some of your efforts will bring desired results, and you can
build on that success. Other efforts will not work out, and
you can learn from what went wrong.
There will be setbacks, and you can let them make you more
determined. There will be victories, and you can put what
you've gained into the next effort.
Life will be filled with ups and downs, chances to move
forward and times when you fall and must pick yourself back
up. When you give your best to each moment, regardless of
what that moment may bring, there is no limit to what can be
achieved.
And you can. If you will.
